A damn good idea
Wish I’d thought of this one: a mitten that has a pocket on the back of the hand that you can put your Charlie Card in. The card scanner can read the card through the mitten, and your hands stay warm. It’s a win-win! I wish they'd think of something for us losers who use commuter rail passes. Commuter rail passes need to be inserted into the readers, not just put next to the readers. So, I have to take my gloves off to get the pass out of my wallet, and then keep the gloves off until I'm up on the platform and can put the pass back into my wallet. My fingers are freezing by the time my pass is back into my wallet and my gloves are back on. Discrimination against suburbanites!
Well, hang on, because I'm sure Charlie Cards will be coming for you soon. I don't even have one yet myself, because due to a fuckup at work they sent me a dead one for my January pass.
But anyway, the first step is: don't keep your pass in your wallet! Leave it in your coat pocket - then you can keep your gloves on. Unless you have different coats to match your outfits, then you'd have to keep on top of where your pass is. ;)
Do you have to get your pass read before boarding the train? That's a stark change from when I was riding commuter rail (pre-2004).
I don't have different coats to match my outfits, but I do have different coats for when it is 20 degrees or when it is 45 degrees. So, I'd need to plan ahead.
I don't have to get my pass read before boarding the commuter rail. I show my pass to the conductor on the commuter rail. I'm not sure what will happen if they switch me from a monthly pass to a Charlie Card.
